Why did I grow my beard? I'm trying to see how it will look.

How do I feel about my beard? It's taken me a long time and the sides are coming in very slowly. I'm unsure about it. I'd love to keep what I have, but if it keeps coming in slowly on the sides, I may have to just goatee it.
