I lost my three-month-old son this year. To show respect for his memory and to mourn his passing, I decided not to shave. The beard also reflects the fact that I am a different person now, changed by his life and death.

How do I feel about my beard? It makes me sad to remember why I grow a beard, but it also helps me to draw strength from my male side.
