When I turned fifty, I promised myself that I would grow a beard. I do not intend to even trim it 'til I turn sixty, or until it goes past my belt. I have never worn a mustache, even when I had smaller beards in the past. I feel it cuts my face in half. I do not mind mustaches on others, though. This photo is at seven months.

How do I feel about my beard? It is the most satisfying and assertive thing. It makes me feel closer to my ancestors and my heritage. I should have done this when I turned forty.
