I grew my beard because I liked the way a goatee or beard looked on others -- as an expression of maleness and sort of belonging to a tribe.

How do I feel about my beard? It's part of my identity now. It's difficult to imagine myself without it! I like the long goatee look, I can vary that by occasionally letting the rest grow in. I grew a full beard years ago (before the goatee) over a winter. It took quite a while to fill in, but I got compliments on it.
