I grew my beard because my wife used the last razor and I was too busy to get to the store for a couple of days. Then the negative comments kicked in, which motivated me to grow it out a bit. That was almost five months ago.

I really did not like it at first, especially before shaving the mustache off. I felt like I was looking at someone else in the mirror, and it was uncomfortable feeling. Now I like it quite a bit and plan to keep it to the six month point at least. I think the style suits me well and enjoy fiddling with it while I work.
