When I was thirteen or fourteen I was so desperate for sideburns that I began to pull the hair from my head down onto my face by my ears. Luckily for me, I began growing facial hair soon thereafter and have never looked back. My particular facial hair stands out in the androgynous crowd of modern men and I feel that it perfectly reflects who I am.

How do I feel about my beard? I may have reached the end of my search for perfect sideburns. My jaw is quite long, so I don't want to grow my chops all the way to my chin and I'm surprised by how much I enjoy the box-like style that results. As a high school English teacher I love my students' bizarre responses to my facial hair -- they now call me "Wolverine."
