Why did I grow my beard? Because of the desire since reporting aboard my Navy ship during Vietnam Nam war era. Had to stay aboard ship for over a month to satisfy personnel inspection and I.D. requirements.

How do I feel about my beard? It has become my signature feature, ever-evolving as it grays and silvers with its distinctive markings. Shaved off perhaps a half dozen times in the intervening years. Negotiated extra money to shave for a movie that I was involved in. Whilst living in the West Indies, I returned to the island clean shaven after a holiday break. Native Rastafarian greeted me saying "you lose ya strength, mon!"
