Congratulations to David Traver for winning first place in the Freestyle Full Beard category as well as overall World Beard Champion! I extend my hearty congratulations to the winners in all the other categories and to all of the competitors as well.
Special congratulations go to John of Georgia from our beards of the world gallery for winning third place in the Full Beard Garibaldi category. Congratulations, John! Here is a photo of John taken well before the 2009 championships:
Thank you, Steven for posting about the 2009 World Beard and Mustache Championships. When I saw the post this evening, it meant the world to me! What an event! It was so much fun meeting great people with great facial hair! I was hoping to meet you there. Did you attend? Can you believe I was awarded 3rd place in the Garibaldi category? I was surprised to even place. There were some great beards on that stage! I had quite a few professional pictures taken and will send some your way for you to post or just to have.
John, I was so pleased to learn that you were among the winners! Congrats again! I am so very proud of you!
I would have loved to be there, but was unable to attend. I’ll look forward to hearing all about your experiences at the event. Sounds like you had a wonderful time!
I was at the competition in “full beard natural” but did not place. There was a lot of excellent beards there. One word of advise … if you’re going to compete in “full beard natural” you need at least four to six years growth just to be in the run-off. There were 44 contestants in “FBN” and the “mega beards” ruled. The longest beard I saw there was knee length.
Aldon, congratulations on competing! Thanks for the tip, too. Sounds like the competition was formidable.
